shopping, wine, river… birthday recap

I always have grand plans to take lots of fabulous pictures when we do fun things, and then, well, I don’t. I don’t because I’m finding it’s so important to just BE in the moment. Sometimes I can’t do both, so I’d rather sacrifice pictures for memories. And man… did I make some great memories this past weekend!

Mack surprised me with a trip to Wimberley, TX, where we stayed at the Blair House Inn. The place was adorable and low-key, and the food was AMAZING. We’ll definitely be going back to take some of the cooking classes they offer. 🙂

Friday night, we met our friends Meg & Eric at the Inn, and then drove into Wimberley to shop, do a little wine tasting, and listen to reggae music on the river. Even now, just three days after, I could totally go back and do it all over again. What an amazing little town!! The weather was perfect and cool, and we had a fabulous time. (I would LOVE to do a wedding down here. I shot a wedding last July at Old Glory Ranch in Wimberley, with Lauren Clark, but didn’t have time to explore the town. Someone looking for a local-ish weekend destination wedding? THIS is the spot.)

On Saturday, after a little outlet mall shopping in San Marcos, we went to New Braunfels to float the Comal River. It was WAY busier than we expected, because none of us remembered that Texas State graduation was the night before. Planning OOPS! Luckily, it wasn’t wall-to-wall rafts or anything, and we had a really lovely lazy time on the river. Once again, of course, no pictures… thank goodness for the slightly-pervy but totally business-savvy guy on the bank who took this picture of us and posted it online! 🙂

Saturday night, we went back to the Blair House for gourmet dinner, and had such fun. The chef came out and explained what he was cooking for us, and of course, it was all delicious. I even got a special candle in my dessert because we were there celebrating my birthday. 🙂 The other half-dozen couples there… all easily 20 years older than us… were very accommodating of us “young’uns.” It’s definitely something I’d love to do again!

Here’s a picture of me before dinner, wearing the faaaaaabulous Betsey Johnson necklace Mack bought me. And then some group pictures in front of the Blair House.

We had to come home a bit earlier than expected on Sunday, because Dottie is sick. Sad Mommy. It meant we missed out on Hamilton Pool and the Wimberley Glassworks. BUT… that gives me two things to look forward to, next time. 🙂

Thank you all so much for your wonderful birthday wishes, both here and on Facebook. I really felt like a rock star, and what more could a girl ask for?

Aaaaaaand… the awesomeness just keeps on coming. We came home to a VERY special package on our doorstep, and if you’ll come check out the blog tomorrow morning, I promise to show you. 🙂

  6. Nicole says:

Ooooh…pretty necklace! Great job, Mack! Glad y’all had a great time!!!

  7. Mack says:

@Nicole and Kevin – the necklace was bought specifically to match the camera earrings you guys bought her!

  8. Misty says:

Looks wonderful! Wimberley really is a great lil’ haven, I love the Blanco and all the cypress trees. Y’all look fabulous! 🙂
Oh, and Hamilton Pool is, in my opinion, a bit overrated, and really not worth checking out unless you get there AS SOON as it opens because it gets really crowded really quick…just a heads up for next time 🙂 Y’all should go check out the “rapids” in San Marcos!
