Welcome to the first blog post of the new year, friends!

Next week is one of our favorite weeks of the year… the week when we show off a bit. 😉 We’re going to be having our usual contest to determine YOUR favorite wedding portrait of 2013, and also sharing our favorite images from everything we shot in the annual “Best Of” posts. It’s always so much fun, not to mention exciting as the voting gets down to the wire… we really hope you’ll come out in record numbers to vote this year!

But before we get there, we have one more session from 2013 to share. We met up with Dustin & Elicia last week at Turner Falls in Oklahoma for a frosty cold session! Dustin is Mack’s cousin, and is currently serving as a Marine. We were seriously bummed we weren’t able to make it to Kansas for Dustin & Elicia’s wedding… they’re a fantastic couple, and it meant a lot to us to show our support for the new adventure they’re starting. So we were thrilled they were able to meet us halfway, in Oklahoma, for a Bride & Groom session the day after they became Man & Wife.

It was SO cold this day. The winds were whipping in gusts of up to 25 miles per hour, and it was only 20 degrees WITHOUT the wind chill factored in. I was bundled head to toe and still freezing, so I need to give all the applause in the world to Elicia, who managed to still look gorgeous in a strapless gown in such extreme weather. A session at Turner Falls involves a lot of walking, a lot of hiking, and (at least when you’re with McG), a lot of being a daredevil. We loved getting to spend this time with our favorite Marine & his new wife, and we adore the images we created together.

No tricks were employed to make this shot seem dangerous… that’s really a bride & groom hanging out on a sheer rock ledge. Even more impressive?? That’s a bride who’s scared of heights. 🙂

I met Dustin the first time I went to Kansas with Mack, which has to have been at least 8 years ago. I’m so impressed by what a handsome, kind, well-spoken man he’s turned into!

Turner Falls is just so stunningly beautiful at every corner…
