We’re In NYC! | McGowan Images Blog

WELCOME TO THE BLOG

We’re In NYC!

In case you hadn’t noticed through posts on our other social media outlets, McG isn’t in the office this week. In fact, we’re nowhere NEAR the office! We’re in New York City, walking ’til our feet are bruised, eating amazing food, seeing amazing shows, and counting all our blessings. That last part is mostly me, since Mack gave me this trip as my Christmas present this year. 🙂 I’m a lucky girl!

We’ll obviously be sharing a blog post full of “real camera” images when we get home next week, but since we had a couple openings in the blog, I figured y’all wouldn’t mind a little mobile blog post to see what we’ve been up to so far! A handful of these images you may have already seen on Instagram, but most of them we haven’t shared. EVERY one of the images was taken on either Mack’s iPhone 4s or my iPhone 5s. We are constantly amazed at the technology just sitting there in our pockets. 🙂

We arrived on Sunday afternoon, and had a great view of the city from a clear sky…

We found our hotel near Times Square and spent a few hours just exploring… Mack had never been to NYC, and I hadn’t been in 8 years or so… so it was pretty awesome for both of us!

Dinner that night was at the restaurant owned by one of our favorite Food Network Chefs, Geoffrey Zakarian. We were absolutely blown away by the food at the Lamb’s Club, and I’d absolutely go back.

Our buddies the Bergs had to deal with cancelled flights, delayed flights, and all sorts of other craziness to get to NYC… but when they finally arrived, everyone was happy. 🙂 We met for a late night drink at a pub near our hotel, and walked down to see all the big lights. I mean… why not?

Monday morning we awoke to see a few inches of snow on the ground, and more steadily falling from the sky. We decided it would still be a great day to walk over the Brooklyn Bridge. And ya know what? We were right. It may have been freezing, but it was an AWESOME adventure. I can’t wait to show off the “big camera” images from this excursion.

Monday night was BEYOND exciting… it was kind of the whole reason we’re in NYC. We saw Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden!!! The show was amazing, the company was amazing, the food we ate at the Breslin before the show was amazing… it definitely makes the list of Top 5 nights of my life.

Yesterday morning, Tuesday, the sun was out!! Such a welcome sight! There was still plenty of snow on the ground, though, so it made for a pretty magical walk through Central Park.

The image below on the left is a cell phone shot of Kevin & Nicole taking a portrait of Mack and I on this bridge. Super meta. 🙂 I’m just excited to see some of those romantic snow portraits!! It’s one of my favorite perks of traveling with photog friends. 🙂

My homies on the 6 heading uptown…

At Sunset, we were 102 floors up above the city. I’m not sure going all the way up to 102 was worth the extra $$, but I WILL say the experience in general was pretty incredible. Once again, rest assured that our “big cameras” got a healthy workout while we were up there…

Last night (ok, maybe the night before, too), we ended the day’s excursion with a trip to PieFace. I mean… it’s a little tiny restaurant that JUST serves pies. Kind of amazing.

Today, we’re going to see a Broadway show, and then if it’s not raining, we might try to ice skate in Rockefeller Center after some shopping. Mack and I will be in NYC ’til Saturday, so rest assured, we’ll have LOTS of images to share with you once we get back home. Thanks for tuning in even during “slow season”! We’d LOVE to hear from you… blog comments are nearly as yummy as a PieFace pie. 😉

    Beautiful!! I’m totally jealous!
And, the the shot of Mack holding the camera outside of the fence on the Empire State Building made my heart skip a beat! EEK!

  2. BreAnn says:

Ugh – NYC is on my bucketlist, for sure. I love seeing your pictures and living vicariously through you!

    Can’t wait to see more!

  3. Misty says:

Ooooh, I can’t WAIT to see more “big camera” shots from this excursion!!! It made me a bit nervous to see the big camera on the edge of the Empire State building, however… 😉

  4. Raquel Oropeza says:

I’m always incredibly excited when photographer friends visit NYC. There are so many potential shots to take in that city so I was eagerly awaiting to see your photos. I’m so glad you braved the cold to walk the Brooklyn Bridge. It’s one of my favorite things to do in NYC and I bet it was completely magical in the snow.

  5. Angie says:

I love that you guys had the bridge all to yourselves to play! ALL THAT SNOW in the park was so beautiful and magical. My heart stopped a little with the Empire State Building pictures… especially the one with Mack and the camera. I’m still nervous over that one. I love all of your adventures!

  6. Abbey says:

Your trip is a dream! Great pics. Feels like I’m there 🙂

  7. Dawn says:

Ugh, seeing y’all’s pictures brings up a lot of memories from when I visited those same places. Can’t wait to see NYC through the “big camera” lenses!! And Pie Face was great! My hotel was right by the Broadway & W 53rd location, so I went at least a couple times in the one weekend. I mean… PIE!!

  8. stephanie says:

Wow, never really had an urge to go to NYC until now. Those pics are great–can’t wait to see the “real” ones! 🙂

  9. Kylie says:

So excited for you guys and your adventure in NYC! One of my favorite cities, and what fun to be there during all this snow!

  10. Tarah says:

Maybe this is dumb, but can I just have a list of the restaurants you ate at? I trust your judgement. It seems like you found awesome little local places.
